The Pittsburgh Steelers (10-3) are headed back on the road this week, this time headed east in their home state of Pennsylvania to face the Philadelphia Eagles. The game is set for Sunday, December 15 with kickoff at 4:25 p.m. ET from Lincoln Financial Field.
Though the Steelers are entering Week 15 hot, with wins in 6 of 7 starts under QB Russell Wilson this year, their offense will have one looming question mark approaching the game — the health of their WR1 George Pickens, who missed Week 14 with a hamstring injury. Though Pittsburgh did manage to scrape together a win without him over the Cleveland Browns, his absence was felt in a big way without a single receiver totaling 50+ yards on the day.
The Eagles, meanwhile, currently sit at 11-2, having won each of their last nine games with a 5-1 home record this season and a three-game lead in the NFC East. Philly is currently one of just two teams to have clinched a playoff spot heading into Week 15, projected for the No. 2 seed in the NFC just behind the 12-1 Detroit Lions.
Unfortunately for the Steelers, the Eagles are playing complementary football as well as any team in the National Football League with elite weapons in the passing game with Jalen Hurts and WRs A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, an elite rushing attack with RB Saquon Barkley and a top-rated defense — having emerged particularly in the secondary since Week 5 when rookie slot corner Cooper DeJean assumed a full-time role.
Here’s a full look at the opening odds for Steelers vs. Eagles in Week 15
Steelers-Eagles odds
Point spread: Steelers +4.5
Over/under: 44.5
Moneyline odds: Steelers +184, Eagles -220
The Pittsburgh Steelers sitting as 4.5-point road underdogs against one of the league’s best overall rosters feels borderline complimentary coming off of their performance against the Cleveland Browns — even if they did walk away with the win. The chances of a black and gold victory probably swing on the availability and health of WR1 George Pickens, but hopefully a week of rest will have him near 100% come gameday.
Though the Eagles have an edge offensively, the Steelers have an edge in the turnover department, leading the league with 26 offensive takeaways approaching Week 15, which sets the offense up for success.
The Steelers haven’t won on the road against the Eagles since 1965… but the good news is that Russell Wilson just so happens to be 6-0 against the Eagles in his career (including playoffs), including a 4-0 record in Philadelphia. It’s the only team he has played 3+ times in his career and is undefeated. It just so happens that the Eagles are one of two teams he’s played multiple games against his career with an undefeated record, the other being — guess who — the Pittsburgh Steelers. Wilson just knows how to cook against those PA teams, eh?
