The Steelers were hit by the injury bug leading up to their game against the Philadelphia Eagles yesterday, which they lost 27-13. Key players missing included WR George Pickens, S DeShon Elliott, and DL Larry Ogunjobi. Adding injury to insult, multiple players were dinged in the loss, including, most significantly, OLB TJ Watt, who exited the game in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury.
X-Rays came back negative. Watt himself said after the game he just twisted the ankle, and now head coach Mike Tomlin has given an overall positive update on Watt.
In his weekly press conference Monday, Mike Tomlin provided an update on where they stand from an injury standpoint heading into an AFC North clash against the Baltimore Ravens.
Tomlin said he doesn’t have much new information on Pickens (hamstring), Elliott (hamstring) and Ogunjobi (groin). Watt, meanwhile, is considered “questionable with an ankle injury.”
The good news? Tomlin said, “I just saw him walking around rather comfortably,” which indicates some positivity about his potential availability for Week 16’s contest against the Baltimore Ravens.
Watt suffered a sprained MCL in the season finale in Baltimore last season, which kept him out of the playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills. However, with it sounding as if the ankle injury was more scare than severe, along with the Steelers chance to win the division this week, it be shocking to not see No. 90 on the field.
Among the other bumps and bruises suffered in Week 15: CB Donte Jackson is dealing with a back issue, and QB Justin Fields left the game with an abdomen injury suffered on a run in the second quarter.
The Steelers head coach said that none of these six guys can be characterized as “out,” and they will make decisions as the week progresses.
