It’s award season for the 2024 Pittsburgh Steelers, with the Pro Football Writers of America’s Pittsburgh Chapter handing out some hardware ahead of the season finale. Rookie center Zach Frazier won the Joe Greene Great Performance Award as the team’s rookie of the year, while outside linebacker Alex Highsmith won The Chief Award for his cooperation with the local media.

Highsmith, in his fifth season, has become a veteran presence on the Pittsburgh defense and a respected voice not just in the locker room, but with the media.

“It’s just an honor to be included in a bunch of great names who have won this award in the past,” said Highsmith. “I know how much this award means to the Rooney family, so if it means a lot to them you know it means a lot to me; it means a lot to this organization as a whole.”

The Chief Award is named after Art Rooney Sr., the founding owner of the Steelers franchise.

Past winners include Steelers greats Tunch Ilkin, Rod Woodson, Jerome Bettis, Hines Ward, Alan Faneca, Brett Keisel, Ben Roethlisberger, and Cameron Heyward. Last year, veteran cornerback Patrick Peterson was the recipient. You can view the whole list here.
