The Steelers are adding more depth at running back. Per Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz, Pittsburgh is finalizing a one-year deal with former Eagles running back Kenneth Gainwell.
The numbers of the deal have yet to be released.
Gainwell rushed for 290 yards last year, averaging 3.9 yards per carry to go along with one touchdown on the ground. He added 22 catches for 116 yards in the passing game.
Gainwell was a third-down, change of pace back with the Eagles, who also returned 18 kickoffs in 2024. He could fill a similar role with the Steelers, and the signing could mark the end of Cordarrelle Patterson’s stint in the black and gold.
Gainwell was a fifth-round pick in 2021 out of Memphis. The 5’9, 200-pound running back is 25 years old. He’s now the second player the Steelers have added this offseason who previously wore the No. 14.
