The Pittsburgh Steelers have made another free-agent signing. No, it’s not a quarterback. Rather, it is a cornerback.

According to Fox NFL insider Jordan Schults, Pittsburgh is signing former New York Jets cornerback Brandin Echols. Echols was drafted by the Jets in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, and he has been a focal point of their defensive backfield for the past four years. In that span, he picked off five passes and totaled 122 tackles in 57 games. In 2024, Echols had two interceptions and 40 tackles in 16 games.

Overall, this feels like a good signing for the Steelers. Echols is better than some of the depth they’ve had in recent years, i.e., James Pierre and the 2024 version of Cam Sutton. Putting Echols in a cornerback room of Joey Porter Jr. and (maybe) Darius Slay, as well as Cory Trice and Beanie Bishop, is a good start to making the room stronger for 2025.
