One of the stories of the summer was the Pittsburgh Steelers’ holding the door open for Aaron Rodgers to walk through. And while it took several months to become official, the four-time MVP has officially signed a one-year deal with the Steelers.
Appearing on The Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers discussed his road to signing with Pittsburgh.
“I had conversations with Mike T every single week,” Rodgers said. “It was really through those conversations that this became a reality. I think most people who come to the Steelers talk about one of the reasons being Mike T, and I can say that is right at the top. Just the conversations we had, it felt like talking to an old friend, honestly.”
Rodgers added his condolences to offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, whose father passed away last week.
“I really love Arthur and wanted to send my love to him,” Rodgers said. “I obviously did personally, but the passing of his father over the last couple of days was sudden and very sad. Arthur’s a great man. I really enjoyed conversations with him during the process and out there at mini-camp.”
Rodgers noted that he and several teammates have a group chat, as well.
“The guys are great,” Rodgers said. “They welcomed me great. It’s fun in the quarterback room. We already have a group chat, and Mason, Skylar, and Will have all been great. So it’s been fun. I had a really nice three days on the field and a few days before that with those guys.”
While it’s still early, Rodgers seems to be enjoying being a Steeler, which hopefully will translate on the field when the Steelers head to New York to face the Jets in Week 1.
