The Pittsburgh Steelers traded for Justin Fields back in March, completing a new-look quarterback room with Fields, Russell Wilson, and Kyle Allen after trading Kenny Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles, releasing Mitch Trubisky, and deciding not to re-sign Mason Rudolph in free agency.
The Steelers have gotten good play from Fields in the first three games of the season, specifically in their Week 3 contest against the Los Angeles Chargers when he went 25-of-32 for 245 yards and two total scores, including a 55 yard touchdown to Calvin Austin.
Fields joined Cam Heyward on the latest edition of Not Just Football where the two talked about various topics, such as Fields’ adjustment to living in Pittsburgh, his reaction to Danny Smith saying they’d like to use him as a kick returner (remember that?) and how the Bears basically let him choose where to get traded to – all of which you should go out of your way to watch.
Fields also recollected about the team’s Week 1 win over the Atlanta Falcons, and said T.J. Watt is like no one else he’s ever seen.
“We played Atlanta Week 1 – I’ve never seen a player take over the game like T.J. did,” Fields said. “His pre-game speech, bro – I don’t know if he’s done that before… it was lit. I felt like I was in a movie. It was crazy, I know I didn’t expect that when he threw his helmet down to yell… I’ve never seen that so I’m just like ‘I’m ready to go.”
One takeaway from the show, at least for me – Fields is incredibly happy to be in Pittsburgh and the team is incredibly happy to have him. This is a good group that has a high ceiling.
