It’s been a challenging few years for Steelers OT Broderick Jones, as the former 14th overall pick has been asked to play multiple positions on the offensive line.

Jones’ natural position at Georgia was left tackle, but he’s primarily played on the right side with the Steelers, including the last 15 games of the 2024 regular season.

The Steelers drafted OT Troy Fautanu last year with the idea that Jones would be moved to his natural side. However, a significant knee injury landed him on injured reserve before the season.

This season is likely a make-or-break year for Jones, as the Steelers will have to decide on his fifth-year option after the season. He’s worked on becoming more agile this offseason, reportedly losing 15-20 lbs.

Jones had this to say in a recent interview with Mike DeFabo, who covers the Steelers for “The Athletic.”

“Being back on the left, I feel like it’s a bigger boost for me, just because I’ve been used to playing on the left side. “Being out here going against people like Alex (Highsmith) and Nick (Herbig), it really helps with the confidence level. When you’re able to block guys like that, it makes you feel like you can do it at any level versus anybody.”

The 24-year-old will likely be tasked with protecting the blind side of the oldest player in the NFL, QB Aaron Rodgers. Which means he will be as noticeable as any player on the black and gold this season, for better or for worse.
