The Steelers suffered their first loss of the season in Week 4 versus the Colts. However, they’re once again favored ahead of Week 5’s Sunday Night Football matchup against the Dallas Cowboys (8:20 p.m. ET, NBC).
Against the Colts on Sunday, the Steelers dealt with heavy injuries but were still somehow healthier than Indianapolis, with a better roster on paper. However, Pittsburgh struggled early, falling into a 17-0 hole in the first half. They nearly climbed back, but mistakes on both sides of the ball killed the comeback. The Steelers lost 24-27.
Pittsburgh has a number of injuries to monitor heading into the week. Running back Jaylen Warren, left guard Isaac Seumalo, and outside linebacker Alex Highsmith
all missed Sunday’s game. Starting right guard James Daniels and running back Cordarrelle Patterson also left the game early.
Dallas, on the other hand, enters Week 5 coming off a big victory over a divisional opponent. The Cowboys shut down the New York Giants’ run game and contained the pass game en route to a 20-15 victory. The Dak Prescott-CeeDee Lamb connection seems to be finally heating up, with the two connecting for 98 yards and a touchdown. After a slow start to the season, the now 2-2 Cowboys are trending in the right direction.
The Cowboys have a laundry list of injuries as well. Star defenders DeMarcus Lawrence and Micah Parsons were both injured against the Giants and are expected to miss time, with the former a candidate for injured reserve. Star cornerback DaRon Bland started the year on IR, but is eligible to return for the matchup.
Here’s a full look at the opening odds for Cowboys vs. Steelers in Week 5.
Cowboys-Steelers odds for Week 5
Point spread: Steelers -1.5
Over/under: 41.5
Moneyline odds: Steelers -130, Cowboys +110
It’s a little surprising to see the Steelers favored despite coming off a loss (and the Cowboys coming off a win). However, Pittsburgh will be playing at home, and Dallas is without a number of its defensive stars. Still, with the way each team is trending, Dallas is far from an obvious underdog.
