Former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Patrick Peterson has officially retired. The former Steelers signed a one-day contract with the Arizona Cardinals so he could retire with the team that drafted him back in 2011.

“My career is here,” Peterson said. “It lives here. So it was a no-brainer for me to come back here to retire where it all started.”

Peterson is one of the best defensive players of his generation. He started his career with eight consecutive Pro Bowl selections from 2011-17 with the Cardinals, and was an All-Pro as a returner as a rookie. He earned two more All-Pro selections in 2013 and 2015, respectively. He signed with the Minnesota Vikings ahead of the 2021 season, spending two seasons in purple. In 2022, he picked off five passes, which was his second-highest total in a season. He spent the 2023 season with the Steelers, starting 16 games and intercepting two passes before getting released ahead of the 2024 campaign.

Peterson wrapped up his career with 36 interceptions and will certainly be a Hall of Fame selection.
