Week 14 was another good one for the Pittsburgh Steelers. A 27-14 win over Cleveland advanced Pittsburgh to 10-3 on the season, while also mathematically eliminating the rival Browns from playoff contention.
Pittsburgh still isn’t guaranteed a playoff spot at this point in the season, but clinching will only be a formality at this point. The Steelers can officially make the playoffs as early as next week with a win/tie against the Philadelphia Eagles, or a Colts loss/tie + Dolphins loss/tie.
The Steelers now have a two-game lead in the AFC North following the Ravens’ Week 14 bye. All Pittsburgh has to do to win its division at this point is to beat Baltimore in Week 16. If not, winning the AFC North is still possible, but it could come down to the wire.
The Buffalo Bills’ loss to the Los Angeles Rams didn’t shake up the AFC standings — the Bills are still the No. 2 seed — but it did put them in danger of being leapfrogged by Pittsburgh if the Steelers continue to win this season.
The Chiefs defeated the Chargers at home on Sunday, but Pittsburgh’s Christmas Day game against Kansas City could prove to be a pivotal one for the AFC’s No. 1 seed. But for now, the Steelers remain focused on a tough opponent in the 11-2 Philadelphia Eagles in Week 15.
The current AFC standings are listed below. Teams that would be in the playoffs if the season ended today are marked with an asterisk. Pittsburgh has already recorded wins over the current Nos. 5, 6 and 7 seeds this season.
