INDIANAPOLIS, IN – – The Pittsburgh Steelers’ offense has consistently been one of the worst units in the NFL over the last three seasons. Since 2022, the Steelers are 20th in EPA per play, 21st in dropback success rate, and have averaged over 20 points per game just once, which came in 2024.

During his press conference at the NFL Combine on Tuesday, I asked Omar Khan about the criticism from the fanbase aimed at the offense and the seeming lack of modernization when it comes to play designs.

“I’m not sure I’d agree with the first part of your question,” Khan said. “But I’ll just say we weren’t good enough. We have to adjust, we have to get better. We weren’t good enough.”

The Steelers looked like they were ready to take a bigger leap down the stretch, especially after putting up 44 points in a big road win against the Cincinnati Bengals to take their record to 9-3 on the year. Unfortunately, the offense failed to score more than 20 points in five of its six remaining games and the Steelers finished the year 10-7 with a wild card loss to the Ravens.

Should the offense truly want to get better (which of course they do), the focus should be on getting the best quarterback possible and pairing that quarterback with at least one more dependable receiver, preferably multiple additions out wide. The run game also needs to be worlds better. The Steelers were 24th in efficiency when it came to running the ball and 28th in success rate.
