The Pittsburgh Steelers wrapped up mandatory mini-camp on Thursday, meaning the next time they take the field will be in Latrobe for training camp. With that in mind, it is unknown if and when T.J. Watt will show up to training camp with his teammates. The former Defensive Player of the Year is in a standoff with the organization as he seeks a new contract. Watt is entering the final year of his current deal.

Mike Tomlin was asked about when he thinks a deal will get done. And while Pittsburgh’s head coach is optimistic the two sides will reach an agreement, he doesn’t know when that will be.

“I’m not going to get into speculation there,” Tomlin said. “I’m optimistic we’re going to get things done because we got two sides that want to get things done. When that’s going to occur I do not know.”

Mike Tomlin on the outlook of TJ Watt reporting to training camp in five weeks:

“I'm not going to get into speculation there… I'm optimistic we're going to get things done because we got two sides that want to get things done. When that's going to occur I do not know.”

While the distraction of Watt’s contract status is less than optimal, the last time he missed mandatory minicamp, he tied the single-season sack record, recording 22.5 sacks in 2021.
