The Pittsburgh Steelers remain a team without a starting quarterback under contract for 2025. And while they seem likely to bring back either Russell Wilson or Justin Fields, a third option went away seemingly as quickly as he emerged.

Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams had a lot of drama and uncertainty going back and forth ever since their loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the divisional round of the playoffs. The Rams eventually gave Stafford permission to seek potential trade partners, but the two sides eventually came to an agreement to keep him in Los Angeles. However, there was certainly a market for the future Hall of Famer – a market that included the Pittsburgh Steelers.

According to NFL insider Benjamin Allbright, the Steelers and Browns reached out about a potential trade but Stafford had “no interest” in either team.

Raiders had a lot of internal optimism early in the week. Giants tried but Stafford wasn’t interested.

While it’s hard to accept that the Steelers shine has worn off for big-name players like Stafford who want to win another ring, it’s also not surprising. The Steelers aren’t in position to do so, both roster wise and coaching wise and Stafford knew that. Now, we wait to see if it will be Wilson or Fields in 2025.
