The historic and unprecedented slide in the 2025 NFL Draft for Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders is finally over, but it wasn’t the Pittsburgh Steelers he landed with, like many expected. Instead, the Cleveland Browns traded up to the No. 144 overall pick in the fifth round and selected the polarizing quarterback.

Many draft experts mocked Sanders to the Steelers at No. 21 overall in the first round of the draft. Pittsburgh, along with the 31 other teams in the league, passed on him for over four rounds, with it being heavily speculated that Sanders didn’t impress teams in the interview process. While everyone has an opinion about Sanders, no one expected a historic slide like this. The latest he was expected to go was early in the second round. Instead, he slips all the way to Day Three to the Browns, who also spent a third-round pick on quarterback Dillon Gabriel. They now have a quarterback room of Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Gabriel, Sanders, and Deshaun Watson.
