Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr has proven himself to be the lockdown defensive back of the present and the future in Pittsburgh. He has allowed just 20 receptions in eight games thus far on 313 coverage snaps, per PFF. The Steelers pass defense as a whole ranks eighth in EPA per dropback in large part due to the efforts of Porter, as well as Donte Jackson the rest of the secondary.
Pittsburgh will face their toughest test of the season up to this point on Sunday when they travel to Landover, MD to face the Washington Commanders and the dynamic duo of rookie sensation Jayden Daniels and star receiver Terry McLaurin.
Appearing on The Insiders, Porter was asked if he had to go to Mike Tomlin to shadow McLaurin throughout the game.
“I think that doesn’t even need to be said,” Porter said. “He knows what I want,” Porter said.
The young cornerback doesn’t shy away from the challenge of covering a team’s top receiver, and we’ve seen him shut down the best the league has to offer time and time again.
