The Pittsburgh Steelers have used their Week 9 bye to get healthy, and the proof is in the pudding, as several players are set to return from injury this week after missing time previously, including rookie center Zach Frazier, running back Cordarrelle Patterson, backup quarterback Justin Fields. Frazier missed each of Russell Wilson’s two starts (Weeks 7 and 8), while Patterson missed four games, and Fields missed Week 8 (though he was listed as the emergency third quarterback).
That means it is back to the bench for backup center Ryan McCollum, who performed admirably in Frazier’s absence. Fans can expect some action from Patterson, who’s had seven touches in each of his last two games with the team, averaging 5.8 yards per attempt — as well as the potential for some packages to get Fields on the field, hopefully in the red zone where he’s been especially effective with his legs.
On a more disappointing note, second-year edge Nick Herbig was downgraded to a DNP status for Friday’s practice after logging back-to-back limited sessions on Wednesday and Thursday, perhaps indicating some setback in his return from a hamstring injury. He, along with safety Terrell Edmunds, who’s primarily played a role on special teams this year, have both already been ruled out for Week 10.
With the final practice of the week in the books, here’s a full breakdown of Steelers' final injury designations, as well as their participation report for their final practice ahead of Week 10 against the Commanders.
