The 2025 NFL Draft is right around the corner — set for April 24 through 26 in Green Bay, Wisconsin — and it appears that draft analysts are a bit split on what the Pittsburgh Steelers project to do with the 21st overall pick. There are two positions that have been popular selections for the black and gold at this point in the pre-draft process, namely, defensive line and quarterback.

Here’s a look at the Steelers latest mock draft projections for Round 1 of the 2025 NFL Draft, including the projected pick and breakdown of the selection.

Derrick Harmon, DT, Oregon

Mel Kiper, ESPN

Harmon is a constant headache for opponents. He had five sacks and 35 pressures as an interior pass rusher last season, and he took care of business in the run game with 11 stops and 10 tackles for loss. Keeanu Benton and Harmon would be a good pairing inside.

I originally had Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart to Pittsburgh. He throws with accuracy and velocity, and he’d be a potential short- and long-term answer. We’re all still waiting to see what happens with Aaron Rodgers, so I’ll hold off on any quarterback moves for the Steelers until we know a little more.

Chris Trapasso, CBS (Projected trade up to pick No. 19 with Tampa Bay Buccaneers)

The Steelers want to add more tenacity and youth on the interior and see Harmon as Cam Heyward 2.0.

Lance Zierlein, NFL.com (Projected trade down to pick No. 26 with LA Rams)

Earlier in the pre-draft process, an NFC executive told me that Harmon “plays like a Raven or a Steeler.” Well here we are, and the Steelers still need defensive line help after moving back in this mock.

Jaxson Dart, QB, Mississippi

With Aaron Rodgers continuing to take his time as he decides on his football future, the Steelers might enter the draft with an alarming lack of clarity behind center. Dart might not be an ideal contingency plan in the short term given his potentially long acclimation period after playing in a play-action-heavy scheme that afforded him plenty of easy looks, but his confidence attacking downfield would make him an intriguing fit for an offense looking to make the most of George Pickens and DK Metcalf.

The Steelers’ plan at quarterback is not completely clear at the moment. Even if they were to land 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers, they would still need a long-term option at the position, so they take another swing here with Dart.

The Aaron Rodgers saga continues, and if history is any indication, it may continue for some time. Regardless, if Rodgers chooses to join the Steelers, he would likely be a short-term rental, and Mason Rudolph will serve as little more than a bridge if necessary.

Pittsburgh is actively searching for a long-term solution at quarterback, and it is deeply invested in finding one. Surprisingly, with both the Browns and Giants passing on quarterbacks early, the Steelers find themselves with the luxury of selecting their top choice.

In his final season with the Rebels, Dart finished with career highs in each significant category, including completion percentage, yards, touchdowns, and QBR, while only accounting for five interceptions.

With 41 starts over four years, the 21-year-old is a seasoned prospect. He’s a smooth operator and a gritty competitor with a little moxie. His dual-threat ability stretches the defense thin and keeps them honest in the RPO game, which is what he does best.

He can deliver an accurate ball with touch at all levels of the field and is not afraid to stick in the pocket and deliver a throw in the face of pressure or lower his shoulder in the open field to pick up a few extra yards. He’s a physical and aggressive competitor. Dart plays to win and could continue Pittsburgh’s esteemed traditions.

Mason Cameron, PFF

While Aaron Rodgers holds out hope that Kevin O’Connell and the Vikings will call, the Steelers are waiting in limbo. But good things come to those who are patient, and Sanders’ slide ends here. The enigmatic passer may lack top-level arm talent, which some may see as an issue when targeting names like D.K. Metcalf and George Pickens, but his metrics tell a different story, as Sanders charted as the highest-graded passer in the class on throws beyond the sticks.

Kenneth Grant, DT, Michigan

Gone is Larry Ogunjobi, and Cameron Heyward, despite an inspiring 2024, will be 36 this upcoming season. Grant is inconsistent, but his best football is in front of him, with strength and plugging. but also twitchiness that points to more upside as a pass rusher.
