The NFL salary cap will be hitting another all-time high in 2025, with the league officially informing teams that the new number will be $279.2 million per team.

It’s around a $24 million increase from last year’s number of $255.4 million.

For the Steelers, that gives them nearly $60 million in top-51 cap space per Spotrac at the time of this writing, with possibly even more becoming available through cuts or extensions during the offseason.

Using the same Spotrac number, the Steelers currently have the ninth-most cap space in the NFL.

While the Steelers can start making internal roster moves and signing free agents not currently under contract, the official start of NFL free agency will be March 12, with the legal tampering period starting March 10.

One position group to watch right away is quarterback, as the Steelers currently only have one signal-caller, Skylar Thompson, under contract for the 2025 season. Pittsburgh general manager Omar Khan stated at the NFL Combine that the Steelers would “love” to bring one of Justin Fields or Russell Wilson back for 2025. That move could potentially come before the NFL free agent window opens.
