The Pittsburgh Steelers are placing rookie offensive tackle Troy Fautanu on the injured reserve list with a knee injury, the team announced on Saturday. The news came on Saturday with two other roster moves ahead of Week 3, including the promotion of OT John Leglue and DB James Pierre to the active roster from the practice squad.

Fautanu’s loss puts second-year OT Broderick Jones in place to start indefinitely, just one week after being benched amid a disastrous performance in Week 2. Fautanu had only just been listed as the starting right tackle on the depth chart earlier this week.

Fautanu originally suffered a knee injury in Week 1 of the preseason, but got the start in Week 2 of the regular season once healthy. Unfortunately, he “tweaked” the knee issue in Friday’s practice, and news came soon after that he would be out “indefinitely” with the injury.

Unfortunately, Jones isn’t fully healthy at the moment either, as he’s been dealing with an elbow injury. He struggled through the preseason and with Fautanu out in Week 1, giving up two sacks. In just four snaps played in Week 2, Jones played just four total snaps, having committed penalties on three of them — two holding calls and a false start.
