The Steelers officially announced two deadline day trades on Monday, with wide receiver Mike Williams and outside linebacker Preston Smith coming to Pittsburgh.

However, the Steelers only had one open spot on the 53-man roster. After the trade for Smith, Pittsburgh announced that tight end Rodney Williams had been released to make room. He is a likely candidate to return to the practice squad.

Williams has been with the Steelers in some capacity since 2022. He’s appeared in 19 regular season games since then, largely on special teams.

The Steelers also released two practice squad players on Monday: linebacker Craig Young and wide receiver Andy Isabella. Both players were at positions the Steelers upgraded via trade on Monday. Young had been with the team since mid-October, Isabella since Oct. 25.

Following a busy day of roster moves, the Steelers now have a full 53-man roster, and two spots open on the practice squad.
