Steelers trade rumors: 3 names to watch ahead of Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline

With the NFL trade deadline rapidly approaching at 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, November 5, fans are left wondering — will the Pittsburgh Steelers finally make their move to acquire a WR2? News recently broke of the Steelers being near a deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars that would send receiver Christian Kirk to Pittsburgh. Sadly, Kirk went down with an injury and due to the severity of it, the deal fell through.

There is no question that the Steelers are in the market for a wide receiver as the deadline looms. Failed attempts at Brandon Aiyuk, Davante Adams, and now Kirk, leave plenty of meat on the bone in the Steelers wide receiver room. While Calvin Austin III has emerged as a serviceable WR2, will he be enough to make the Steelers true contenders?

If this is not the case, here are a few names still on the board that the Steelers may take aim for as they attempt to pull off a deadline buzzer-beater.

WR Mike Williams

Mike Williams, who the Steelers met just two weeks ago, remains a name of strong intrigue for Omar Khan and Pittsburgh. After seven strong seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers (two of which included 1,000-plus-yard receiving seasons), Williams has fallen into a void in New York.

Through nine games, Williams is at a historical low stats-wise, with just twelve receptions for 166 yards and no touchdowns. In 2023, Williams only played three games with Los Angeles before injury and still had better numbers in those three games than his entire season in 2024. Going back to 2022, Williams had a solid season, capturing 895 yards and four touchdowns. The talent for Williams seems to still be there if he is given a fair shake, which he has not in New York. Whether or not the Steelers are willing to take that chance on him remains a mystery. You would have to assume for the right price though, Williams could make a great fit in Pittsburgh.

WR Darius Slayton

Another man the Steelers recently came in contact with, Darius Slayton, is a name that could be of some assistance. Slayton’s steady career could help a Steelers offense looking for someone to be a consistent factor for them.

While he will not put up earth-shattering numbers, Slayton is someone you can always count on for two or three big catches a game. Slayton has failed to reach the 700-yard mark just once in his career and is on pace to achieve such a mark again this season. Every season has been with a struggling Giants team at that. Slayton is on pace for a career-high in targets this season, as he already has 50 through nine games. If it is the right time for the Auburn product to change scenery, who better than the Steelers to finally give him a fighting chance at being a contender?

WR Tyler Boyd (Tennessee Titans)

The Pittsburgh native Tyler Boyd rounds out our list of trade deadline WR targets. After serving his entire career in Cincinnati, Boyd went to Tennessee hoping to play a bigger role. That has not been the case though as the Titans have struggled mightily.

Boyd is yet to find the end zone in 2024 and has just 21 receptions for 184 yards. While he has struggled to get the ball, the Titans have struggled in general. Now, with a 2-6 record, Tennessee continues to plummet massively in the standings. If Boyd wants more opportunity to get the ball and a shot at being a contender one more time, his hometown of Pittsburgh could be the perfect story.

It remains a mystery whether Omar Khan will make a move or not. If he is to do so keep an eye on these three names as likely targets.
