The Pittsburgh Steelers are playing their first primetime game of the season this week hosting the Dallas Cowboys in Week 5— a showing of the two of the league’s most historic franchises with a rich head-to-head history.
There are plenty of injuries on both sides of the ball this week, but a few key injuries on the Cowboys’ defense could make the “over” on several Steelers player props particularly intriguing.
Here are a few of our favorite player props to consider for the Steelers’ Week 5 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.
QB Justin Fields OVER 46.5 rushing yards (-113)
As noted above, there are several defensive players either ruled out or questionable this week. Star DE Micah Parsons is the greatest loss of the week, having been officially ruled out, while starting cornerbacks Trevon Diggs and Caelen Carson (rookie) are questionable. All of this is positive news for QB Justin Fields, who opened up the offense last week to nearly lead a 14-point deficit at halftime.
Fields has had six or more rush attempts in each of his four games this season, with 55+ rushing yards on two separate occasions, and will need to be a key participant in the run game with several injuries at running back this week; both Jaylen Warren and Cordarrelle Patterson were already ruled out.
RB Najee Harris OVER 15.5 receiving yards (-113)
The Steelers are going to be without running back Jaylen Warren this week, which means another week of Najee Harris playing a greater role in the passing game. Last week — the team’s first game without Warren — Harris saw a massive increase in participation on passing snaps. Harris played on 30 passing snaps and ran 26 routes on the day — both marks he hadn’t reached once all of last season. That resulted in his second consecutive game of five targets, catching three of them for 54 yards.
WR Jalen Tolbert OVER 33.5 receiving yards (-113)
Cowboys WR Brandin Cooks was surprisingly ruled out this week after developing an infection in his knee following a procedure. That means more opportunities for the next man up — in this case, third-year wide receiver Jalen Tolbert, averaging 40 receiving yards per game through the first four games of the season. Joey Porter Jr. should see some of star wideout CeeDee Lamb, even if he doesn’t shadow him for the game, which could leave Tolbert open for some extra plays.
